Description
1xN PLC Splitter-A planar lightwave circuit (PLC) splitter is an optical power management device fabricated using silica optical waveguide technology to distribute optical signals from a central office (CO) to multiple premise locations. The bare fiber splitter is an ODN product suitable for PON networks, which can be installed in pigtail boxes, test instruments and WDM systems, minimizing space occupation. It is relatively fragile in terms of optical fiber protection, and requires a complete protection design on the carrying box and device.
Common Configurations:
- 1×2 Splitter: Splits the signal into 2 outputs.
- 1×4 Splitter: Splits the signal into 4 outputs.
- 1×8 Splitter: Splits the signal into 8 outputs.
- 1×16 Splitter: Splits the signal into 16 outputs.
- 1×32 Splitter: Splits the signal into 32 outputs.
- 1×64 Splitter: Splits the signal into 64 outputs.
Key Features of a 1xN PLC Splitter:
- Split Ratio:
- The splitter divides one input signal into multiple outputs, with “N” representing the number of output ports. For example, a 1×4 splitter has four outputs, a 1×8 splitter has eight outputs, and so on.
- PLC Technology:
- Uses Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) technology, which provides accurate and uniform signal splitting with low loss and high reliability.
- Insertion Loss:
- The loss increases as the number of outputs increases. For example, a 1×4 splitter might have an insertion loss of about 7 dB, while a 1×16 splitter might have around 13 dB. The exact loss depends on the quality and design of the splitter.
- Wavelength Range:
- Typically operates over a broad wavelength range, such as 1260 nm to 1650 nm, which makes it compatible with various optical transmission systems.
- Uniformity:
- High uniformity ensures that the optical power is distributed evenly across all output ports, which is critical for maintaining consistent performance.
- Packaging Options:
- Available in different packaging types such as ABS box, cassette, bare fiber, or LGX module depending on the installation environment.
- Environmental Stability:
- Designed to perform well in various environmental conditions, ensuring long-term reliability in both indoor and outdoor installations.
